March, Mud, and Maple
We are approaching the end of March, which brings two Maine staples in mud and maple.
True spring is arriving, and we are soaking up those first warm days as our driveways and trails turn to temporary mud pits. This was my favorite time of year as a kid in rural Maine, when we had to park our car at the end of a long driveway and splash our way home through the puddles. And with mud season comes a favorite day for locals, visitors, and business owners: Maine Maple Sunday weekend.
Healthy Lincoln County announces Community Routes pop-up event in Wiscasset Feb. 28
Healthy Lincoln County's Community Routes mobile outreach program will host a free Community Pop-Up Event on Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Wiscasset Transfer Station (78 Fowle Hill Road) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event offers an open, welcoming space where neighbors can share resources and access essential supplies at no cost.
'The Gleaners and I': Connects art, food justice, community action
Lincoln Theater, in partnership with Healthy Lincoln County and the Lincoln County Gleaners, is presenting a free screening of “The Gleaners and I,” Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. This event, offered free to the public, invites viewers to explore the practice of gleaning through the eyes of acclaimed French filmmaker Agnès Varda, and to learn how the centuries-old tradition is being carried forward to address food insecurity locally.
Teaming up for teens
Boothbay Region High School/Rotary Interact Club, Boothbay Region YMCA, and Whale’s Tale and Seafarer’s Pub teamed up for teens Tuesday, Feb. 10, hosting a free dinner specifically designed for anyone in grades 9-12. The popular event, attended by 41 local teens and a handful of adults, stemmed from the desire to offer more teen-friendly programming in the area.
Damariscotta Hardware raises $2,500 for Healthy Lincoln County
The funds were raised one checkout at a time and matched dollar-for-dollar by the locally-owned cooperative.
Changes Ahead for SNAP-Ed Programming in Lincoln County
Due to recent federal budget reductions, the SNAP-Ed nutrition education funding supporting Healthy Lincoln County will end on September 30, 2025. We appreciate the partnerships and impact achieved through this support.
