Food Security
Food Access
We work across Lincoln County to increase food access by:
• Supporting partners and community members with food access resources and emergency food needs.
• Partnering with Lincoln County pantries and community providers to provide education and resource sharing.
• Coordinating and providing food to year-round and seasonal Share Tables and Help Yourself Shelves through weekly food donations and resources.
Farmers Market Promotion Program
HLC’s Farmers Market Promotion Program (FMPP) aims to:
• Increase usage of state nutrition benefits, such as SNAP and WIC, when purchasing from local farms, famers markets, and businesses.
• Work with farmers markets and individual farms to increase acceptance of these benefits and promote their availability to the community.
• Educate on and increase use of nutrition incentive programs, like Maine Harvest Bucks, Farm Fresh Rewards, and Maine Senior FarmShare.
Lincoln County Gleaners & Share Tables
The Lincoln County Gleaners:
• Work with local farmers with the goal of reducing food waste and providing free access to healthy, local produce around the community.
• Contribute to share tables, also known as ‘share sheds’ and ‘help yourself shelves.’ These are located throughout Lincoln County and are accessible throughout the week, some even 24/7.
• Facilitate the Grow-A-Row program where community members can share extra garden bounty to share tables, dropping off their produce to us for processing.
