Healthy Foods for the Community

Increasing Access to Healthy Foods (SCHOOL SUPPORT)

HLC works with schools and community organizations to increase access to free, locally grown and healthy foods for their youth, adults and families. Healthy Lincoln County makes this possible by establishing connections with Lincoln County Gleaners, Twin Village Food Bank Farm, Food Pantries, school snack and backpack programs, Free and Reduced School Meals enrollment, Maine Harvest Bucks and more.

This includes:

  • Providing schools with resources to increase their Free Meals enrollment so every student can learn well and participate in free SNAP-Ed programs
  • Connecting schools and community hubs with local sources of free healthy food
  • Helping schools and community sites to establish systems to get free food to their youth, adults and families
  • Working with farmers markets and community resources to make market shopping more accessible for SNAP-eligible community members.
